Efficiency measures – which one gets the best impact?
It’s freezing cold and once the snow and ice melts, it will only be a short time that the numerous potholes that were ever present before the bad weather get even worse. In challenging financial times there are a number of ways to approach the classic scenario of fixing them.
There is the prioritisation, and the emergencies that need to be dealt with (so that Councils don’t have to fork out huge sums for fixing alloys wheels) and the ever increasing tsunami of mounting areas that need to be addressed. Many authorities have well established plans for dealing with this, but thinking about the various elements where improvements can be made get the big savings. Kent County Council seem to be getting it right from a recent NSG Case Study – saving £5million per annum. Great work.
Initiatives such as:
- Better CRM reporting and feeds in from the public
- Better notification and data integration between systems
- Mobile working
- Smart routing
- Territory management
As Councils move towards becoming commissioning originations with outsourced services, this is going to become even more important to hit KPI’s in contract proposals and deliver service improvements. Our feeling is that only by combining these things together that you get the real savings.
